Definition of Common Terms
A file that contains a historical record of errors and warnings that
occurred on the ipc1-im8130 controller or the copier. The
information for each message includes the date, subsystem, and
message severity. You can filter the Message Log to list only
those messages that meet specific criteria.
Multi-function peripheral. Hardware that combines several
functions into one unit; for example, the combination of copier,
printer and scanner.
Novell Distributed Print Services. NDPS simplifies the process of
setting up, administering, and troubleshooting Novell printing by
migrating away from queue-based printing toward a more "plug in
and print" paradigm.
In order for non NDPS-aware printers, such as the ipc1-im8130,
to operate within the NDPS model, a proprietary "gateway" must
be installed and configured on the network. The Imagistics NDPS
Gateway is distributed on the Imagistics ipc1-im8130 Admin's
Client CD-ROM.
NetWare Directory Service. NDS maintains a hierarchical
database of information about the network resources within a
global enterprise, including networks, users, subgroups, servers,
volumes and printers. Users log onto the network as a whole, not
a specific server, and NDS determines their access rights.
The organizational unit that contains the print server object. Print
queue and device objects can be located anywhere within the
NDS tree, but the HP JetDirect print server needs to be
configured to use the fully-qualified print server object name.
Refers to the name of the organizational tree used by your
network. This name is normally found in the Net.cfg file located
with your MS-DOS Vlm.exe program or from within the
Nwuser.exe program that runs under the Windows
system.
NetWare Loadable Module.
A network operating system from Novell based on a client/server
architecture. Clients log onto one or more file servers, which
provide network services such as Email, printing, and storage.
