Airbag deployment
The airbag inflates within milliseconds. The
1 warning lamp lights up.
i
If the airbags are triggered, you will hear a
bang; a small amount of dust may also be re-
leased. The bang is not hazardous to your hear-
ing and the dust does not constitute a health
hazard.
Airbag inflation slows down and restricts
the movement of the vehicle occupants.
The effect of the vehicle occupant making
contact with an airbag which has been de-
ployed is that the airbag releases some hot
gas. This feature is designed to reduce the
force acting on the occupant's head and
chest. The airbag is therefore depressu-
rised after the accident.

Risk of injury
After an airbag has been deployed:
Airbag parts are hot. Do not touch them,
otherwise you could burn yourself.
The airbags must be replaced at a quali-
fied specialist workshop which has the
necessary specialist knowledge and
tools to carry out the work required.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you
use a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for
this purpose. In particular, work relevant
to safety or on safety-related systems
must be carried out at a qualified spe-
cialist workshop.

Risk of injury
When an airbag inflates, a small amount of
fine powder is released. This powder does
not constitute a health hazard and does not
indicate that there is a fire in the vehicle.
The powder could cause short-term breath-
ing difficulties for persons suffering from
asthma or other respiratory conditions. To
prevent these breathing difficulties, you
should either leave the vehicle as soon as it
is safe to do so or open the windows to let
fresh air in.
