Fuel and fuel tank
Problem
The fuel tank in a vehicle with a
diesel engine has been run
completely dry.
The vehicle is losing fuel.
Possible cause/
consequence
There is air in the fuel system.
The diesel line or the fuel tank is
faulty.

Suggested solutions
Refuel the vehicle ( page 125).
Switch on the ignition for approximately 10 seconds (turn the
key to position 2 in the ignition lock).
Turn the starter motor for up to 40 seconds without interrup-
tion until the engine is running regularly.
The fuel system is bled.
If the engine does not start:
Wait for two minutes.
Repeat the starting procedure for a maximum of 40 seconds.
If the engine still does not start:
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
Switch off the ignition immediately.
Remove the ignition key.
On no account start the engine.
There is a risk that leaking diesel may ignite or explode.
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
