Problem
# The red battery charge
indicator lamp comes on
during or after fording.
B The red coolant warning
lamp lights up while the
engine is running.

Possible cause/
consequence
The poly-V-belt is wet and is
slipping on the pulley.
The coolant level is too low.
If this warning lamp comes on
repeatedly, this means that
there is a leak in the coolant
system.
If the coolant level is OK, the
electric fan may have failed.

Suggested solutions
Drive on slowly.
Do not use too much throttle.
Do not switch off the engine.
The poly-V-belt dries after fording. The red battery indicator
lamp goes out after approximately 15 seconds.
Top up the coolant and observe the warnings ( page 134).
If you need to top up the coolant more frequently than normal,
have the cooling system checked at a qualified specialist
workshop.
Have the cooling system checked immediately at a qualified
specialist workshop.
If the coolant temperature is under 125 °C, you may drive on
to the next qualified specialist workshop.
Avoid placing a heavy load on the engine (e.g. driving in moun-
tainous terrain) and stop/start driving.
