New brake pads
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only have components
such as brake pads fitted to your vehicle
which have been approved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Brake pads
which have not been approved for
Mercedes-Benz may adversely affect the
safety of your vehicle.
G
Risk of accident
New brake pads will only develop their opti-
mum braking effect after they have been
driven for several hundred kilometres. First,
compensate for the reduced braking effect
by applying greater pressure on the brake
pedal. This also applies when the brake pads
or brake discs have been changed.
Handbrake
To achieve a better braking effect between
service intervals, you can briefly apply the
handbrake when the vehicle is moving.
G
Risk of accident
The brake lamps do not come on when the
handbrake is applied.
Make sure that other road users are not en-
dangered when you brake.
Drive at a speed of around 30 km/h on
a dry and level road.
Pull the handbrake lever up while keep-
ing the release knob pressed
( page 78) until the vehicle brakes no-
ticeably.
Hold the lever in this position for
around ten seconds and then guide it
fully back down again.

Driving tips
!
Do not drive faster than 40 km/h. You could
otherwise damage the brakes.
Overrun cut-off
The fuel supply is cut off if the driver's foot
is completely removed from the accelera-
tor pedal when the engine is overrunning.

G
Risk of accident
Whereas the vehicle may still be fully con-
trollable at a certain speed on a dry road sur-
face, you must reduce your speed on a wet
or icy road surface to achieve the same level
of road safety. You could otherwise cause
an accident.
You must pay particular attention to road
conditions when the temperature is around
freezing.
