Environmental note
Do not dispose of batteries with the house-
hold rubbish. Dispose of a defective battery
in an environmentally responsible manner.
Take it to a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre
or a special collection point for old batteries.
G
Risk of injury
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only use batteries that have
been specially tested and approved for your
vehicle by Mercedes-Benz. The batteries are
more impact-resistant so that occupants are
not burnt by acid if the battery is damaged
in an accident.
To prevent acid burns or scalds, please ob-
serve the following safety notes when han-
dling batteries:
Do not lean over the battery.
Do not place any metal objects on the
battery. You could otherwise cause a
short circuit and the highly explosive gas
mixture in the battery could ignite.
Make sure that you do not become elec-
trostatically charged. Do not, for exam-
ple, wear synthetic clothing or rub
yourself against textiles. Also, do not
slide the battery over carpet or other
synthetic materials.
Under no circumstances touch the bat-
tery first. To remove any electrostatic
charge, first get out of the vehicle and
touch the bodywork.
Do not rub the battery with a cloth. The
electrostatic charge could cause the
battery to explode when you touch it or
if a spark arcs over.

Practical advice
!
Switch off the engine and remove the key
before you loosen or disconnect the battery ter-
minal clamps. You may otherwise damage elec-
tronic components such as the alternator
beyond repair.
Have the starter battery checked and, if neces-
sary, replaced every two years or 20,000 km at a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
i
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you have
any work on the battery, e.g. disconnection, re-
moval, recharging or replacement performed at
a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. at a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
