The following value indicates the total en-
gine capacity.

Engine oil viscosity
Viscosity describes the flow characteris-
tics of a fluid. If an engine oil has a high vis-
cosity, it means that it is thick; a low
G 280 CDI
viscosity means that it is thin.

Select the SAE classification (viscosity) of
the engine oil according to the outside
temperature. The following table shows
you the viscosity classes to be used de-
pending on the average air temperature.

Transmission oil
You can use any passenger-vehicle trans-
mission oil that has been tested and ap-
proved for Mercedes-Benz vehicles and
which is listed on overview sheet 236.12 of
the Mercedes Benz Specifications for Serv-
ice Products. The overview sheet can be
seen at any Mercedes-Benz Service Cen-
tre.

Do not use lubricant additives. They can lead
to increased wear of, and damage to, the assem-
blies. The use of lubricant additives could result
in a limitation of your warranty entitlement.
