Replace the tyres after a maximum of
six years, regardless of wear. This also
applies to the spare wheel.
Do not run tyres that are too heavily
worn as tyre grip rapidly deteriorates
on wet road surfaces (risk of aquaplan-
ing).
!
Store tyres in a cool, dry place, preferably in
the dark. Protect the tyres from oil, grease and
petrol.
Notes on regular checks for wheels and
tyres
Check the wheels and tyres regularly
for damage (e.g. cuts, piercing, tears,
bulges of deformation on the tyres,
fractures or heavy corrosion on the
wheels). Damaged wheel rims could
cause the tyres to lose pressure.
Regularly check the depth and condi-
tion of the tyre tread over the whole
width of all tyres. If necessary, turn the
front wheels so that you can check the
insides better ( page 140).
All wheels should have a valve cap to
protect the valve against dirt and mois-
ture.
Check the tyre pressure in all tyres, in-
cluding the spare wheel, regularly and
before any lengthy journey, and correct
as necessary ( page 140).
Notes on the journey
During the journey, pay attention to vi-
brations, noises and unusual handling
characteristics, e.g. pulling to one side.

Operation
Tyres and wheels
This could indicate damage to the
wheels or tyres. Reduce speed if you
suspect a tyre defect. Stop the vehicle
as soon as possible and check the
wheels and tyre for damage. Con-
cealed tyre damage could also be the
cause of such unexpected handling
characteristics. If no damage can be
detected, have the vehicle, the wheels
and the tyres examined at a specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes–Benz Serv-
ice Centre.
Make sure that the tyre is not pinched
when you park the vehicle. If it is una-
voidable, drive over kerbstones, speed
bumps and potholes slowly and at an
obtuse angle. The tyres, in particular
the tyre walls, could otherwise be dam-
aged.
