Do not exceed a depth of water of 60 cm.
Switch off the auxiliary heating
( page 102).
Shift the transfer case to LOW
( page 82).
Engage the differential locks if neces-
sary ( page 86).
Avoid high engine speeds.
Drive slowly.
Accelerate gently and make sure that
the wheels are gripping.
Shift the automatic transmission to
shift range 1 or 2.
Drive into the water where the ground
is level and at walking pace.

Under no circumstances should you acceler-
ate before entering the water. The bow wave
could cause water to enter and damage the en-
gine and neighbouring assemblies.
Drive slowly and at an even speed
through the water.
Do not stop.
There is a high degree of resistance in
water, the bottom is slippery and in
some cases loose. It is therefore diffi-
cult and dangerous to pull away in wa-
ter.

Do not open any of the vehicle's doors while
fording. Water could otherwise get into the vehi-
cle interior and damage the vehicle's electronics
and interior equipment.
Ensure that you do not create a bow
wave as you drive.
Clean any mud from the tyre tread after
fording.

Off-road driving
Apply the brakes to dry them after ford-
ing.

The red battery charge indicator lamp in the
instrument cluster may light up during or after
fording.
The poly-V-belt is wet and is slipping on the pul-
ley.
Drive on slowly.
Do not use too much throttle.
Do not switch off the engine.
The poly-V-belt dries after fording. The red bat-
tery charge indicator lamp goes out after approx-
imately 15 seconds.
