Engine
Problem
The engine will not start. You
can hear the starter motor
working.

working. The reserve fuel warn-
ing lamp is lit and the diesel fuel
level has dropped below the re-
serve range.

Possible cause/
consequence
There could be a malfunction in
the engine electronics.
There could be a malfunction in
the diesel fuel supply.
The on-board voltage is too low
because the starter batteries
are too weak or flat.
The fuel tank has been run dry.

Suggested solutions
Turn the key back to position 0 in the ignition lock before the
next starting attempt.
Start the engine again. Note that excessively long and fre-
quent attempts to start the engine will drain the battery.
If the engine still does not start after several starting attempts:
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
Start the engine with the emergency start button
( page 219).
Jump-start the engine ( page 219).
If the engine still does not start despite jump-starting:
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
Refuel the vehicle ( page 125).
Bleed the fuel system ( page 187).
