Problem
LOW The yellow transfer case
indicator lamp flashes
once every second.
LOW The yellow transfer case
indicator lamp flashes
every two seconds.
: The red oil level warning
lamp lights up while the
engine is running.
J The yellow washer fluid
level indicator lamp
lights up while the en-
gine is running.
/ The fuel/water separa-
tor indicator lamp lights
up while the engine is
running.
Possible cause/
consequence
The gearshifting process was
aborted because of an error.
The transfer case is in neutral.
The transfer case is malfunc-
tioning and is in emergency run-
ning mode.
The engine oil level has dropped
to a critical level. There is a dan-
ger of engine damage.
The windscreen washer fluid
level has fallen to approximate-
ly one third of the reservoir ca-
pacity.
The water that has accumulated
in the fuel/water separator has
reached the maximum level.

Suggested solutions
Carry out the gearshifting procedure again ( page 84).
Do not perform any transfer case gearshifts.
Have the transfer case checked as soon as possible at a qual-
ified specialist workshop.
Check the engine oil level ( page 131) and top up the engine
oil as necessary ( page 133).
If you have to top up the engine oil frequently, have the engine
checked for possible leaks.
Top up the washer fluid ( page 135).
Drive immediately to a qualified specialist workshop.
