Off-road driving
Shift the transfer case to HIGH
( page 84).
Clean the headlamps and tail lamps
and check for any damage.
Clean the front and rear licence plates.
Clean the tyre treads with a water jet
and remove any foreign bodies.
Clean the tyres, wheel guards and un-
derbody with a water jet.
Check whether twigs or other parts of
plants have become trapped. These will
increase the risk of fire and could dam-
age the fuel lines, brake hoses or other
parts of the vehicle.

After the trip, examine without fail
the entire undercarriage, tyres, body-
work structure, steering, chassis and
exhaust system for damage.
After driving for longer periods across
sand, mud, water or in similarly dirty
conditions, have the brake discs,
wheels, brake pads/linings and axle
joints checked and cleaned.
Foreign objects can disturb wheel bal-
ance and cause vibrations. If you de-
tect strong vibrations after off-road
travel, check for foreign objects in the
wheels and if necessary remove them.
