Maximum gradient climbing ability
The maximum gradient climbing ability is
80% if the transfer case is set to LOW.
Hill crests
When driving uphill, slightly reduce pres-
sure on the accelerator immediately be-
fore reaching the hill crest. Make use of
the vehicle's own momentum to travel over
the crest.
This style of driving prevents:
the vehicle from lifting off the ground at
the hill crest
loss of tractive force
the vehicle from travelling too quickly
down the other side

Driving down into a valley
Drive slowly.
Do not drive at an angle down steep in-
clines. Steer into the line of fall and
drive with the front wheels straight
ahead. The vehicle could otherwise slip
sideways, tip and overturn.
Before tackling steep downhill gradi-
ents, select shift range 1.
In this way you make use of the engine
braking power to reduce speed. If the
engine's braking effect is not sufficient,
brake gently. Ensure that the vehicle is
moving in the line of fall when doing so.
Check that the brakes are working effi-
ciently after a long downhill journey.
