Off-road driving
After fording
Wave motions could cause water to enter
the footwell when driving through water.
You can use the drain ports in the footwell
to drain this water.

1 Clamping strap
2 Rubber plug
Pull clamping strap 1 up.

Remove rubber plug 2.
The water will escape through the drain
port (arrow).
Use a cloth to wipe up any residual wa-
ter.
Replace rubber plug 2 in the drain
port.
Fold down clamping strap 1 and press
it firmly.

Negotiating obstacles
Observe the following rules when driving
over tree stumps, large stones and other
obstacles:
Shift the transfer case to LOW
( page 82).
Avoid high engine speeds.
Shift the automatic transmission to
shift range 1.
Drive very slowly.
As far as possible try to drive straight
over the centre of obstacles: front
wheel first, then rear wheel.

Obstacles could damage the floor of the ve-
hicle or chassis parts. Ask passengers to offer di-
rections when driving over large obstacles. Any
damage to the vehicle always increases the risk
of an accident.
