Practical advice
Jump-starting

Jump leads that are protected against polar-
ity reversal and further information about jump-
starting are available from any Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre.

Avoid repeated and lengthy starting at-
tempts.
Never start the vehicle using a rapid battery
charger.
Only jump-start the battery in the engine com-
partment.

Risk of injury
There is a risk of acid burns during the jump-
starting process due to the gases which es-
cape from the battery. Do not lean over the
battery while the engine is being jump-start-
ed.

Risk of explosion
There is a risk of minor explosions during the
jump-starting process due to the gases
which escape from the battery. Avoid creat-
ing sparks. Keep naked flames away from
the battery and do not smoke.
Comply with safety precautions and special
protective measures when handling batter-
ies. These can be found in the index under
"Battery".
Make sure that the two vehicles do not
touch.
Apply the handbrake and move the se-
lector lever to P.
Switch all electrical consumers off.

The jump-start contacts are on the right-
hand side of the engine compartment
when viewed in the direction of travel.

1 Jump lead to the negative terminal
2 Negative terminal
3 Positive terminal
4 Jump lead to the positive terminal
