Operation
Winter driving
Have the spare wheel changed at the near-
est qualified specialist workshop which has
the necessary specialist knowledge and
tools to carry out the work required.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre for this pur-
pose. In particular, work relevant to safety
or on safety-related systems must be car-
ried out at a qualified specialist workshop.
Snow chains
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only use snow chains
which have been approved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
144
If you are intending to fit snow chains,
please bear in mind the following points:
Snow chains cannot be fitted on all
wheel/tyre combinations.
For maximum tractive force and driving
stability, fit snow chains to all four
wheels. Follow the manufacturer's in-
stallation instructions.
Do not exceed the maximum permissible
speed of 50 km/h. When you are back on
snow-free roads, remove the snow chains
as soon as possible.

Risk of accident
Do not shift down for additional engine brak-
ing on a slippery road surface. The drive
wheels could lose their grip and the vehicle
could skid.
Drive with particular care on icy roads.
Avoid sudden acceleration, abrupt chang-
es of direction and braking.
If the vehicle threatens to skid or cannot
be brought to a standstill at low speeds:
Shift the selector lever to position N.
Try to keep the vehicle under control
using corrective steering.
