Th e sh ift pr essu r e r egu la t in g solen oid va lve (1) h a s
a n in t er fer en ce fit a n d is sea led off t o t h e va lve body
of t h e sh ift pla t e (4) by a sea l (a r r ow). Th e con t a ct
spr in gs (2) a t t h e solen oid va lve en ga ge in a slot in
t h e con du ct or t r a cks (3). Th e for ce of t h e con t a ct
spr in gs (2) en su r es secu r e con t a ct s.
OPERA TION
Wh en a n elect r ica l cu r r en t is a pplied t o t h e sole-
n oid coil, a m a gn et ic field is cr ea t ed wh ich pr odu ces
a n a t t r a ct ion t o t h e plu n ger, ca u sin g t h e plu n ger t o
m ove a n d wor k a ga in st t h e spr in g pr essu r e a n d t h e
loa d a pplied by t h e flu id t h e va lve is con t r ollin g. Th e
plu n ger is n or m a lly dir ect ly a t t a ch ed t o t h e va lve
wh ich it is t o oper a t e. Wh en t h e cu r r en t is r em oved
fr om t h e coil, t h e a t t r a ct ion is r em oved a n d t h e
plu n ger will r et u r n t o it s or igin a l posit ion du e t o
spr in g pr essu r e.
Th e plu n ger is m a de of a con du ct ive m a t er ia l a n d
a ccom plish es t h is m ovem en t by pr ovidin g a pa t h for
t h e m a gn et ic field t o flow. By keepin g t h e a ir ga p
bet ween t h e plu n ger a n d t h e coil t o t h e m in im u m
n ecessa r y t o a llow fr ee m ovem en t of t h e plu n ger, t h e
m a gn et ic field is m a xim ized.
