CAUTION: When tightening fuel injection line union
nuts, counter hold with a wrench at the thread con-
nection. ON NO ACCOUNT exceed the tightening
torque at any time.

CAUTION: Care must be taken when installing the
engine cover. Assure the proper routing of the fuel
injector return fuel hose to the banjo bolt fitting in
the left rear corner of the cover. Failure to do so
may pinch or damage the hose causing fuel leakage
or a driveability concern.
WARNING: USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN THE
ENGINE IS OPERATING. DO NOT STAND IN A
DIRECT LINE WITH FAN. DO NOT PUT YOUR
HANDS NEAR PULLEYS, BELTS OR FAN. DO NOT
WEAR LOOSE CLOTHING.

FU EL TAN K
DESCRIPTION
Th e pla st ic fu el t a n k (F ig. 20) is m ou n t ed t o t h e
fr a m e r a ils u n der t h e left /cen t er side of t h e veh icle.
Th e fu el t a n k con t a in s a ser vicea ble fu el pu m p m od-
u le wit h a n elect r ic fu el pu m p, a n d a fu el level sen d-
in g u n it . Th e t a n k is a lso equ ipped wit h 2 fu el lin es:
a fu el su pply lin e t o t h e fu el pu m p, a n d a sepa r a t e
fu el r et u r n lin e.
F u e l Te m p e ra tu re Co n tro l: A sect ion of t h e fu el
r et u r n lin e is coiled a t t h e r ea r sect ion of t h e t a n k
(F ig. 21). Th is coiled sect ion is u sed t o h elp dr op t h e
t em per a t u r e of fu el r et u r n in g t o t h e t a n k. A t h er m o-
st a t (pr eh ea t in g va lve) (3) (F ig. 21) is u sed t o keep
fu el t em per a t u r e below 167 degr ees F. If fu el t em per-
a t u r e is a bove 167 degr ees F, fu el pa sses fir st
t h r ou gh t h e coiled cooler lin es, a n d t h en in t o t h e fu el
t a n k. If fu el t em per a t u r e is below 150 degr ees F, fu el
bypa sses t h e coiled cooler lin es, a n d is r et u r n ed
dir ect ly in t o t h e fu el t a n k.
An elect r ic fu el pu m p (m or e com m on ly r efer r ed t o
in diesel a pplica t ion s a s a fu el t r a n sfer pu m p or fu el
lift pu m p) is a t t a ch ed t o t h e fu el pu m p m odu le. Th is
