A / C EXPANSION VALVE
Th e A/C expa n sion va lve is loca t ed on t h e en gin e
side of t h e da sh pa n el n ea r t h e sh ock t ower.
Th e A/C expa n sion va lve ca n fa il in t h r ee differ en t
posit ion s (open , closed or r est r ict ed).
In a n Open P osit ion : t h is will r esu lt in a n oisy A/C
com pr essor or n o coolin g. Th e ca u se ca n be br oken
spr in g, br oken ba ll or excessive m oist u r e in t h e A/C
syst em . If t h e spr in g or ba ll a r e fou n d t o be defect ive,
r epla ce t h e A/C expa n sion va lve. If excessive m ois-
t u r e is fou n d in t h e A/C syst em , r ecycle t h e r efr iger-
a n t .
In a Closed P osit ion : Th er e will be low su ct ion
pr essu r e a n d n o coolin g. Th is m a y be ca u sed by a
fa iled power dom e or excessive m oist u r e in t h e A/C
syst em . If t h e power dom e on t h e A/C expa n sion
va lve is fou n d t o be defect ive r epla ce t h e A/C expa n -
sion va lve. If excessive m oist u r e is fou n d r ecycle t h e
r efr iger a n t .
A Rest r ict ed Or ifice: Th er e will be low su ct ion
pr essu r e a n d n o coolin g. Th is m a y be ca u sed by
debr is in t h e r efr iger a n t syst em . If debr is is believed
t o be t h e ca u se, r ecycle t h e r efr iger a n t a n d r epla ce
t h e A/C expa n sion va lve a n d t h e r eceiver-dr ier.
REMOVAL
WARNING: Refer to the applicable warnings and
cautions for this system before performing the fol-
lowing operation (Refer to 24 - HEATING & AIR
CONDITIONING/PLUMBING - WARNINGS) and (Refer
to 24 - HEATING & AIR CONDITIONING/PLUMBING -
CAUTIONS). Failure to follow the warnings and cau-
tions could result in possible personal injury or
death.
(1) Recover t h e r efr iger a n t fr om t h e A/C syst em
(Refer t o 24 - H E ATING & AIR CONDITIONING/
P LUMBING - STANDARD P ROCE DURE - RE F RIG-
E RANT SYSTE M RE COVE RY).
(2) Discon n ect a n d isola t e t h e n ega t ive ba t t er y
ca ble.
(3) Rem ove t h e n u t t h a t secu r es t h e su ct ion a n d
liqu id lin e fit t in gs t o t h e st u d on t h e A/C expa n sion
va lve (F ig. 11).
(4) Discon n ect t h e su ct ion a n d liqu id lin es fr om
t h e expa n sion va lve.
(5) Rem ove t h e sea ls fr om t h e su ct ion a n d liqu id
lin e fit t in g a n d disca r d.
(6) In st a ll plu gs in , or t a pe over t h e open ed liqu id
a n d su ct ion lin e fit t in gs a n d bot h expa n sion va lve
por t s.
