Commissioning – standard procedures
As soon as you have connected the telephone to your local network (Local Area Network)
via the network cable, various routines will start running. The exact sequence depends on
the configuration of your local network. In normal cases, steps (a) to (e) will run automati-
cally (see below), without you needing to intervene during the procedure.
Note: If you use VLAN functions in your local network, you must configure the VLAN set-
tings of your telephone accordingly (→ p. 94, 122).
There are four different LAN configurations for the procedure:
1. Commissioning with DHCP in the local network (normal case)
Steps (a) to (e) run automatically following connection to LAN and to the power supply.
a) The IP telephone identifies itself by means of its unique MAC (Media Access Control)
address on the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. The DHCP server
supplies:
the IP address assigned to it,
the standard gateway address (with a gateway it is possible to cross over into a differ-
ent network),
the subnet mask assigned to it,
the IP address of the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) server,
the IP address of the license manager (from software "C package")
