2.2 Components of Transmission Section

The transmission section consists of the document guide area, ADF area, TX drive area, and
scanning area. The following figure shows the layout of the respective areas.
TX drive area
2.2.1 Document Guide Area
The document guide area is the area for setting documents to be transmitted. The document
sizes that can be transmitted are fixed paper sizes such as A4, Letter, Legal. (Refer to Page 2-
2.)
2.2.2 ADF Area
The ADF area consists of the Kick roller, Document support, ADF roller, and ADF unit. When
the Document sensor detects the presence of document, the ADF roller and the Kick roller
automatically pull the document to the Document position sensor.
• Document support
Document support is pressed against the document to assist feeding.
• Kick roller
The Kick roller feeds the document to the ADF roller when the Document sensor has
detected the presence of document. This roller is driven by the TX motor. The feed speed
by the Kick roller is slower than the ADF roller. Accordingly, a one-way clutch is attached
to the Kick roller, to allow the Kick roller to turn freely in one direction.
