Chapter 4 Virtual Interface Configuration

The virtual interface refers to the interface that can exchange data, but does not exist
physically and needs to be established through configuration.
The virtual interface includes:
Sub-interface
Virtual template interface
Loopback interface
Null interface
4.1 Sub-interface
4.1.1 Introduction
The SecPath F1800-A supports the concept of sub-interface, which enables users to
configure multiple sub-interfaces on the single physical interface. Thus, the
networking becomes more flexible.
Sub-interface supports interconnection between multiple virtual interfaces and
networks on a physical interface; that is, to associate multiple virtual interfaces with
one physical interface. The virtual interfaces that belong to the same physical
interface will share physical configuration parameters during work, though they also
have independent link layer and network layer configuration parameters.
At present, only the Ethernet interface of the SecPath F1800-A supports sub-interface
feature.
