Parameter

Description
Use the following password-control enable commands to enable various password control functions
of the system:
Use the password-control aging enable command to enable password aging.
Use the password-control length enable command to enable the limitation of the minimum
password length.
Use the password-control history enable command to enable the history password recording.
When the password used to log into the switch expires, the switch requires the user to change the
password, and automatically saves the history (old) password to a file in the flash memory. In this way,
the switch can prevent any user from using one single password or the used password for a long time to
enhance the security.
Use the password-control composition enable command to enable the password composition
check function.
Use the undo password-control { aging | length | history | composition } enable command to
disable a password control function.
By default, password aging, limitation of minimum password length, history password recording, and
password composition check functions are all enabled.
Using any of the password-control aging enable, password-control length enable,
password-control history enable commands, you can enable the password control feature globally.
With this feature enabled, user passwords are stored in private files, through which password security
can be improved. In this case, you need to use the save command to save the password into the
configuration file.
To disable the password control feature globally and restore the default settings of password aging time,
minimum password length, and the maximum number of history password records, you need to
execute the undo password-control aging enable, undo password-control length enable, and
undo password-control history enable commands. After you disable the password control feature
globally, all the user passwords are cleared for fear of illegal use of the password. In this case, you need
to configure the password again.
Related command: password-control.
