PCA or Patient Controlled Analgesia is designed for therapies requiring a continuous rate of infusion,
patient controlled demand boluses, or both.

egin programming a PCA
following display screen will appear, requiring you to enter information needed to program
this therapy.

ese menu items allow you to customize the program to match each individual prescription.
pump's default settings are listed in the left screen. Each eld is individually explained below.
Note: Some of the lines are abbreviated to t on the display screen; the full descriptions appear
below.
1. UNITS: Allows you to select from units of mg, mcg, or mL depending on how the
prescription is written. In the PCA therapy, the pump will allow rates as de ned in gure 5.1;
therefore, if mg or mcg is selected, the concentration requested in the next eld will determine
the upper and lower programming limits for mg and mcg. Use the NO/CHANGE key until the
desired units appears on the display, and then press the YES/ENTER key to accept and move
to the next eld.
2. CONCEN (Concentration):

is entered, press YES/ENTER to accept, and move the cursor to the next eld. If mL is chosen
in the UNITS eld, this line will not display.
