3.6.3 Age of a Lamp

When to Replace a Lamp

When a new lamp is installed and its serial number recorded (Advanced: Lamp History menu), the lamp
timer resets to 0 and begins logging time for the new lamp. All lamp information is displayed in the
Advanced: Lamp History menu including the last 8 lamp logs.
Assuming the lamp Expiry Message checkbox has been enabled in the Advanced: Preference menu
(recommended), an expiry message appears (as an alarm window) when the lamp has reached its defined
Lamp Expiry limit. The lamp should be replaced at this point.
It is recommended that you set Lamp Expiry based on the average lifetime of the lamp as older lamps become
increasingly fragile and more prone to sudden failure or even explosion, which can be damaging and
dangerous. These maximum limits appear in the table below:
LAMP TYPE
CDXL-20SD (2000W)
CDXL-18SD (1800W)

Lamp Rotation

This feature defaults to OFF. Use the web user interface to enable this feature, via the Advanced: Preferences
menu, by activating the Lamp Rotation alarm trigger. When enabled a text message reminder appears on the
LCD display panel (CDP) or in the alarm window (web UI) when the lamp reaches mid-life, every time the
power turns ON for approximately 10 - 15 minutes. This message indicates the bulb should be physically
rotated 180° to ensure an even burn of the lamp. Rotating the lamp improves its performance and life
expectancy. Lamp rotation must be performed by Christie trained personnel only. The same safety precautions
taken during lamp replacement must be taken when performing a lamp rotation. For details, refer to
Install Lamp, on page
This can be done via the web user interface Advanced: Lamp History menu; or via the CDP, Lamp>Lamp
Rotate menu.

Maintaining Footlamberts

Over time, as the theater screen ages and dust/dirt collects on the port window, the theater may no longer be
achieving the expected footlamberts as reported. It is a good idea to periodically recalibrate footlamberts
