Appendix E: Boresight Correction
E.1.4 Begin Boresight Correction
1. The image on screen will likely be out of focus at this stage. Loosen each of the set screws by a 
1/2 turn.
2. Bring the center of the screen image into focus by adjusting the three cap screws an equal amount.
IMPORTANT! Use only small rotations of 1/8 turn or less. The direction of rotation must be the same for
each cap screw.
3. Boresight the image vertically using only small increments of movements to the top cap screws.
4. Boresight the image horizontally using only small increments to the horizontal cap screws.
5. Up until now the focus and zoom rings have not been adjusted, and should both be in the center of range
position.
E.1.5 Confirm Focus Over Entire Zoom Range
For zoom lenses only.
1. Rotate the zoom ring completely to one end of travel. Adjust focus ring to ensure focus is achieved.
2. Rotate the zoom to the opposite end of travel. Adjust focus ring to ensure focus is achieved.
3. If focus is achieved at both ends of the zoom, skip to Step 7.
4. If focus is not achieved in either of these zoom positions a small amount of correction must be applied to
each of the three cap screws. Position the zoom at the end which does not yield a focused image and adjust
the focus ring to the best allowable focus.
5. Adjust each cap screw an equal amount and direction to bring the entire screen into focus.
6. Repeat Steps 1 to 3.
7. Return zoom to desired position and bring into best focus.
8. Evaluate the corner focus. If necessary, use only a few small increments to fine tune the vertical and
horizontal boresight.
9. Boresight complete. Gently snug up the three set screws to lock the lens mount.
