The SINUMERIK desktop is intended for service and provides the following
functionality on the Windows NT level:
S
Network operation for installing/updating system software
S
Setting the system environment
S
Authorization of the SIMATIC STEP7 software
S
Test functions for system components.
The PCU contains a network connection by default.
In order to operate the PCU in a network (Internet, Intranet), in addition to con-
nect the Ethernet cable to the PCU, the following settings are required:
– Computer Name
– Network protocol
– IP address.
Note
To obtain the required specifications required for network operation, please
contact the appropriate network administration.
In order to set the computer name of the PCU, open the control panel using the
Windows NT task bar Start > Settings > Control Panel.
In the control panel, open Network and type the name of the new computer.

In order to establish a network connection using the TCP/IP protocol, the PCU
must be assigned an unambiguous IP address in the network.
To do so, choose: Start > Settings > Control Panel.
In the "Control Panel", open Network. From the register: "Protocols" select the
TCP/IP protocol and click the button: "Properties" to call the Properties dialog:

If a DHCP server exists in the network, select:
"Obtain an IP address form a DHCP server"
S
If no DHCP server exists in the network, select:
"Specify an IP address"
and enter the appropriate specifications (see above: Note).
