Enter the Diagnostics menu, and then navigate to:
SENSOR TESTS > 2 x 500-Sheet Tray Sensor Tests > Tray 3 lift plate limit
Does the sensor status change while toggling the sensor?

Reseat the sensor cable.

Check the cable for damage, and replace if necessary.
