STARTING
*NO CRANK CONDITION —
TEST
3 Turn ignition off.
Place gear selector in park or neutral position.
Disconnect the Starter Relay.
With an Ohmmeter, measure the P/N Position Switch Sense Circuit in the Starter
Relay Connector to ground.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Go To 4
→ Repair the open Park/Neutral Switch Sense Circuit between
No
4 Turn ignition off.
Check the Battery Cables for high resistance. (Use service procedure)
Did either Battery Circuit have a voltage drop greater than 0.2 volt?
Yes → Repair the Battery Circuit for high resistance.
→ Go To 5
No
5 Turn ignition off.
Disconnect the Starter Relay.
Warning: The Parking Brake must be on and the Transmission must be in
park for a vehicle equipped with an automatic transmission or the clutch
pedal depressed for a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission.
Warning: The engine may be cranked in the next step. Keep away from
moving engine parts.
Briefly connect a jumper wire between Starter Rly B(+) and Output Circuits.
Did the Starter Motor crank the engine?
Yes → Go To 6
→ Go To 9
No
6 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Starter Relay.
Turn ignition on.
Using a 12-volt test light, check the Ignition Switch Output Circuit at the Starter
Relay Connector.
While observing 12-volt test light, hold ignition key in the start position.
Is the light illuminated and bright?
Yes → Go To 7
→ Repair the Ignition Switch Output Circuit for an open or high
No
7 Turn ignition off.
Disconnect the Starter Relay.
Disconnect the PCM.
With an Ohmmeter, measure the Starter Relay Control Circuit from the Relay to the
PCM.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Go To 8
→ Repair the open Starter Relay Control Circuit.
No
