DRIVEABILITY - GAS
Symptom:
P0500-NO VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0500-NO VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL
When Monitored: With the engine running more than 31 seconds, transmission not in
park or neutral, brakes not applied, ECT above 82°C (180°F), MAP vacuum less than 11
and engine rpm greater than 1800.
Set Condition: No signal from the vehicle speed sensor for more than 11 seconds.
INTERMITTENT VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL
8 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT OPEN
SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
VSS PINION GEAR
VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR)
TEST
1
Turn the ignition on.
With the DRB, read PCM DTCs.
Is the Good Trip Counter for P-0500 displayed and equal to 0?
Yes → Go To 2
→ Go To 10
No

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector(s).
Disconnect the Vehicle Speed Sensor harness connector.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of the 8 Volt Supply circuit.
Is the resistance above 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Repair the 8 Volt Supply circuit for an open.
→ Go To 3
No
POSSIBLE CAUSES
ACTION
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
