COMMUNICATION
Symptom:
P1685-INVALID SKIM KEY
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1685-INVALID SKIM KEY
When Monitored: At ignition key on.
Set Condition: This condition exists when the transponder ID (KEY) read by the SKIM
does not match any of the transponder ID's stored in the SKIM's memory. The following
could be new or does not match, PCM, SKIM, or KEY.
INCORRECT VIN IN PCM
INVALID SKIM KEY NOT PRESENT
NO COMMUNICATION WITH SKIM
NO VIN PROGRAMMED IN THE PCM

SKIM TROUBLE CODES SET
TEST

Turn the ignition on.
With the DRB, read trouble codes.
Is the starts since set counter zero for P1685?
Yes → Go To 2
→ Go To 7
No

Using the DRB, attempt to communicate with SKIM.
Can you communicate with the SKIM?
Yes → Go To 3
→ Refer to the Communication category and perform the *Bus +/-
No

Using the DRB, check for trouble codes set in SKIM.
Are there any trouble codes set in the SKIM?
Yes → Repair all trouble codes set in SKIM first.
→ Go To 4
No

With the DRB, read the VIN.
Is there a VIN programmed in the PCM?
Yes → Go To 5
→ Program the correct VIN into the PCM and retest.
No
POSSIBLE CAUSES
ACTION
Signals open from SKIM symptom.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
