P1685-INVALID SKIM KEY —
TEST

With the DRB, display the VIN that is programmed in the PCM.
Is the correct VIN programmed in the PCM?
Yes → Go To 6
→ Replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and program
No

Turn ignition off.
Replace the SKIM.
With the DRB, erase all DTC's.
Attempt to start and idle the engine.
Using the DRB, read the PCM trouble codes.
Does the DRB display this code?
Yes → Replace the Powertrain Control Module.
→ Test Complete.
No

Note: This DTC could have been set if the SKIM module was disconnected,
or replaced recently.
Note: All keys that the customer uses for this vehicle must be tested to verify
they are good.
First verify the correct VIN is in both the PCM and SKIM modules.
Turn the Ignition key off.
With the next customer key turn the ignition key on and crank the engine to start.
If the engine starts that is usually a good key.
With the DRB read trouble codes. LOOK FOR P1685
Is the starts since set counter Zero, on the DRB DTC screen for code P1685?
Yes → Replace the Ignition Key.
→ Test Complete.
No
Note: If this DTC can not be reset, it could have been an actual theft attempt.
