COMMUNICATION
Symptom:
P1686-NO SKIM BUS MESSAGE RECEIVED
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P1686-NO SKIM BUS MESSAGE RECEIVED
When Monitored: At ignition key on and continuously during engine operation.
Set Condition: This condition exists when a SKIM status bus message was not received
from the SKIM module within the last 20 seconds.
PCM
WIRING HARNESS INTERMITTENT
LOSS OF SKIM COMMUNICATION
PCI BUS CIRCUIT OPEN FROM PCM TO SKIM
TEST
1 Turn the ignition on.
With the DRB, read PCM trouble codes.
Is the starts since set counter on the DTC screen for P1686 equal to Zero?
Yes → Go To 2
→ Go To 4
No
2 Turn the ignition on,
With the DRB, select vehicle Theft Alarm and read SKIM Trouble Codes.
Note: This test will indicate if the Bus is operational from DLC to SKIM.
Were you able to establish communication to the SKIM?
Yes → Go To 3
→ Refer to the Communications category and perform the Bus +/-
No
3 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Disconnect the SKIM harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the PCI Bus circuit between the PCM harness connector
and SKIM harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Replace the Powertrain Control Module.
→ Repair the PCI Bus circuit for an open.
No
POSSIBLE CAUSES
ACTION
Signals Open From SKIM symptom.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 1.
