DRIVEABILITY - GAS
P0123-THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE HIGH —
TEST
3 Turn the igntion off.
Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor harness connector.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the Throttle Position Sensor Signal circuit.
Is the voltage above 5.5 volts?
Yes → Repair the TP Sensor Signal Circuit for a short to voltage.
→ Go To 4
No
4 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor harness connector.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the TP Sensor Signal circuit and the 5 Volt Supply
circuit at the TPS harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Repair the TP Sensor Signal Circuit shorted to the 5-Volt Supply
→ Go To 5
No
5 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor harness connector.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Turn the ignition on.
Using the DRB, read the Throttle Position Sensor voltage.
Connect a jumper wire between the TP Sensor Signal circuit and Sensor Ground
circuit.
Is the voltage below 1.0 volt?
Yes → Replace the Throttle Position Sensor.
→ Go To 6
No
6 Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Throttle Position Sensor harness connector.
Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module harness connector.
Note: Check connectors - Clean/repair as necessary.
Measure the resistance of TP Sensor Signal circuit from PCM harness connector to
TP Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes → Go To 7
→ Repair the TP Sensor Signal circuit for an open.
No
7 If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
Repair
ACTION
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Circuit.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
Replace the Powertrain Control Module.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 5.
