TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

The following is provided to help in diagnosing the probable source of troubles. It is a guideline and should
not be assumed to have all causes for all problems.
NOTE: On DI models, always check for fault codes recorded in the MPEM first
communication kit (P/N 529 035 676)
conditions. Refer to Diagnostic Procedures in ENGINE MANAGEMENT section.
ENGINE WILL NOT START
OTHER OBSERVATION
Engine does not turn over
Engine turns slowly

. If a fault code is detected, service the fault code and recheck operating
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• DESS operation non functional
• Safety lanyard switch or harness dam-
aged
• Burnt fuse on MPEM or in rear elec-
trical box: battery, starting system,
fuel pump (DI models)
• Starting system fuse keeps on burn-
ing
• Discharged battery
• Defective Start/stop switch
• Battery connections
• Water/fuel hydrolock
• Starter
• Seized engine
• Seized engine
• Hydraulically locked air compressor
(DI models)
• Seized jet pump
• Faulty sensor (DI models) or MPEM
• Loose battery cable connections
• Discharged/weak battery
• Restriction in jet pump
• Seizure in jet pump
• Partial engine hydrolock
• Partial engine seizure
• Worn starter

• If 2 short beeps are not heard when in-
stalling safety lanyard, refer to ELEC-
TRICAL SYSTEM and ENGINE MAN-
AGEMENT
• Replace
• Check wiring then replace fuse
• Check wiring, solenoid and MPEM
• Check/recharge
• Check, refer to Starting System or
ENGINE MANAGEMENT
• Check/clean/tighten
• Check, refer to section MAINTENANCE
