from the old system. License keys are generated from each system's
unique system ID number.
3 Perform a backup operation on the old system, Operations > Manage
Data > Backup Database. Be sure to enable the check box labeled
Include NBX Voice Mail if you want users' voice mail messages to be
available on the new system.
Perform a database Restore operation on the new system using the
backup file you just created, Operations > Manage Data > Restore
Database. Be sure to enable the check box labeled Include NBX Voice
Mail if you want users' messages to be available on the new system.
Backup
You can back up a database at any time. To ensure a successful
restoration of your database, be sure that the version number of the
backup file matches the version number of the system software. For
example, to restore the data on a system running version R4.3.3, use a
backup file from R4.3.3, not from R4.3.2 or lower. Many times, if you try
to restore a database that was saved on an older release, you will
succeed. However, if a database schema change has occurred between
the old and new releases, the restore will fail.
CAUTION: 3Com does not support the restoration of a database from an
older version of the 3Com NBX system software.
3Com recommends this backup policy:
Back up your database before you upgrade the NBX system software.
When you upgrade NBX system software, answer Yes when the
software asks if you want to include the database in the upgrade
process.
After an upgrade, backup the database again.
After you make any administrator-level configuration changes, backup
the database.
To ensure that you capture changes that users make to their personal
settings, perform frequent, possibly daily backups.
Voice mail messages are included in a backup of your system data only if
you specify that you want them included. If voice mail was not included
when the system data was backed up, you cannot specify that you want
to restore voice mail during a restore operation.
