Double Acting Pump Diagnostics

Problem
1.
Pump not stroking
2.
Pump strokes erratically
with reduced output
3.
Pump leaks adhesive
from between the piston
shaft and hydraulic
body
4.
Pump leaks adhesive
from between the pump
frame and manifold

To determine why the pump has failed, you will, in most cases, have to
partially or fully disassemble the pump. To assist you in determining the
appropriate level of disassembly, Tables B-1 and B-2 provide a breakdown of
pump failures, the potential conditions that could produce each failure, and
the disassembly procedure(s) in which potential condition(s) can be
examined.
Disassembly procedures are provided in Pump Disassembly and
Reassembly.
Table B-1 Double Acting Pump Diagnostics
Possible Cause
Air valve requires lubrication
Air valve is dirty
Air valve is damaged
Shifter fork is damaged
Shifter fork is installed upside down
Magnetic actuator assembly is loose or
damaged
Tank is empty
Isolation valve is closed
Tank drain is clogged
Siphon check valve is loose,
damaged,or dirty
Pressure check valve is loose,
damaged or dirty
Piston shaft seal is worn or damaged
Damaged or missing O-rings on pump
body
Pump is not fastened to manifold
Corrective Action
Lubricate air valve.
Remove and inspect the air valve.
Remove and inspect the shifter fork.
Inspect and tighten or repair.
Fill the tank.
Open the isolation valve.
Remove the tank strainer if equipped and
clear the drain.
Inspect and repair the siphon valve.
Inspect and repair the pressure check
valve.
Replace the seal.
Replace the pump body O-rings.
Fasten the pump to the manifold.
