Remove the System Battery

SMOD1. This is an internal component accessed from the back of the server by removing the
SMOD.
The system battery maintains system time when the server is powered off and a time server is
unavailable. If the server fails to maintain the proper time when the system is powered off and
not connected to a network, replace the battery. The following topics and procedures provide
information to assist you when removing and installing the system battery:

System batteries are field-replaceable units (CRUs). For more information about

Caution -
the battery. You must disconnect the power cables from the system before performing this
procedure.
Caution -
electrostatic discharge. This sensitivity can cause the components to fail. To avoid damage,
ensure that you follow antistatic practices as described in

Remove the System Battery
This is an internal component that is accessible from the back of the server by removing the
SMOD. Perform this procedure to access and remove the battery.
1.
Prepare the server for cold service.
This is a cold-service component. Power down the system and disconnect the AC power cables
from the server before performing this procedure.

Remove SMOD0 or SMOD1.

Close the SMOD handles.
4.
Set the SMOD on a flat surface with the back side facing toward you.
