DIRECT IGNITION COIL INSPECTION
Remove the direct ignition coil from the cylinder
head.
Measure the direct ignition coil resistance between
the connector terminals.
CONNECTION : A - B
STANDARD: 0.07 - 0.10 0: (20 °C/ 68 O F)
If resistance is out of specification, replace the direct
ignition coil.
Measure the direct ignition coil second ary coi l resis -
tance between the primary terminal and spark plug C
terminal.
CONNECTION : B - C
STANDARD: 4.6 - 6.8 kn (20
°C/ 68
O F)
If resistance is out of specification, replace the direct
ignition coil.
EXCITER COIL PEAK VOLTAGE
Remove the left side cover (page 2-3),
Disconnect the leM 6P (Brown) connector.
Connect the peak voltage adaptor probes to the wire
harness side connector terminals.

with commercially available digital multi meter
(impedance 10 M n/DCV minimum)
CONNECTION: Blue/ White (+1- White (-)
Shift the transmission into neutral.
Crank the engine w ith the starter motor or
kickstarter and read the peak voltage.
PEAK VOLTAGE: 50 V mini mum

ICM 6P (BROWN) CONNECTOR
If the peak voltage measured is abnormal, recheck

Remove the right radiator sh roud (page 2·7).
Disconnect the alternator 4P (Black) connector.
Connect the peak voltage adapter to the con nector
terminals of the alt ernator side, recheck the peak
voltage.
If the peak voltage measured at the ICM connector
is abnormal and the one measured at the alternat or
connector is normal, check the connect ors for loose
connection and the wire harness for an open circuit
or loose connection.
If both peak voltage measured are abnormal, check
each item in the troubleshooting (page 17-4).
