ELECTRO-CLEAR REAR

The Electro-Cleâr system incoryorates an electricâl
grid fused to the inside suface of the rear glass to which
current is âpplied to warm and defog the glass. A conrrot
switch activates the system ând allorvs current flow ihrough
the rear window grid for approximâtely 8-12 minur€s. A
delogger timer, $hich is also acrivared when the swirch is
depressed, aùtomaticaily shuts off the system. The system
can be tumed off ât any time by momertarily pushing the
control switch to the OFF position.
The system is protected by â l0 ampere fuse and â
circuit breaker locâted in th€ fuse block.

The rcar window grid, powered from a buss bar at the
left side of the giass, is a ceramic compound. Cârc should
be exercised when cleaning the inside reâr glass so as not
to scratch or remove any of the grid material. Damage to
the grid could câuse ân open circuit. A monitor lâmp in the
control switch indicat€s poiler being fed to the rear window
grids so the operator can determine when the system is
operating.
To check for proper operation oflhe rear window grid,
turn the ignition switch oî and âctuate the system by
depressing the control switch to the ON position
momentarily. Contact one probe of a test lâmp to â good
"ground". With ihe other test lamp probe tip removed (so
âs rot to damage the gid), contact the bare wire to the grid
âdjacent to the garnish molditrg. The test lâmp should glow
at full brilliance. Contact the sam€ grid line midwây acioss
window. The test lamp should glow at haif billiance.
Repeat the procedures for each gdd line. Ifan open circuit
exists in a grid li.e between left side ând the center, the test
lamp will not glow. Ifthere is an open circui. between the
center and the right side, the test lamp will glow more
brilliandy at the center than if the line were unbrok€n.
Rear window grid repairs may be made by following
the procedure shown in the Body S€ ice Manual. A system
