Carburetor Removal and Installation
l. R€move âir cl€âner and gâsket.
2. Remove âir cleaner stud.
L Disconnect fu€l and vacuum lines from cârburetor'
4. Disconnect accelerâtor linkâge and electrical
5. Remov€ carburetor attaching bolts, disengage
transmission cable (if so equipped) and remove cârburetor,
and mounting gask€t.
6. Invert carburetor and dmin fuel in container.
7. Plâce inverted cârburetor on s!ùable holding fixture
- manifold side up. Use care to avoid dâmaging linkâg€'
tùbes, and parts protruding from air horn
ldle Mixturê Ne€dlê Removâl and Adjustment
1. Remove idle mixture needle and plug as followsl
a. Using a punch between the two locator points in
throttle body beneâth idle mixture needle plug (nânifold
side) (Fig. bc4-42). breâk-oul lh-o,lle boo) lo gâin dccess
to the idle mixtu.e needle plug. Then, drive out hardened
steel plug covering mixture needle.
NOTICE: Hardened plug will shaner rather.hân
remaining intâct. It is not necessary to remov€ the plug
cornplelelyj insreâd, remo\e loose Piece' to dllow use
oi ldle Mi\rure Adjusring Tool J-28706 or I /16" thin
wall deep sockei.
b- Using Tool J-28706 or 3/16" thin wâll deep socket,
remove idle mixture n€€dle, washer, and spring from
throttle body. Repeât procedure a. and b for remaining idle
2. Install idle mixture needle, washer, and spring using
Idle Mixture Adjusting Tool J-28706 or 3/16" thin wâu
deep sockel Lighlly seal needle and lhen bdck oùt 2lurns
as a prelrminâry idle mixlure adjuslment Finar idle mixrure
adiustment must be mâde on ' car using the procedures
descdbed under ldle Mixture Adjustment
