W H E E L R E M O V A L
Wh€€ls can be hard to remov€ ftom the car due ro
rùsting on â tight fii bet*een the wheei cenrer hole and the
âxl€ or rotor. These wheels can be removed without damase
as follow::
1. Retighten all lug nuts on rhe âffecred rvh€et, rhen
loosen each nut two turns.
2. Lower vehicle onto floor.
3. Rock the câr from "ddve" to "reverse,, allowins car
lo move several feel in each direclion. Apply quick. ;ard
Jabs on the brake pedal to loos€n the wh€€I.
4. Raise the car. Remove the lug nuts and the wheel.
Penetrating oil has not been found to be effective in
removing tight wheels. Howev€r, if it is used ir should be
applied only to the hub surface.
CAUTION: Do not allow the penotrating
oil to g6t on the vêrtical surfac6s between
thê whoel and tho drum (or rotor) because
penolrating oil in this arôa could causo
th€ whEsl to work loosê as th€ car rs
drivon causing loss of control.
Never use heat to loosen a tighr wheel because the
âpplication of heat to rhe wh€el can shorten the life of rhe
Wheel nuts must be tighrened in sequence and to
proper torque to âvoid bending wheel or brake drum or
rotor (Fig. 3E-15).
CAUTION: Beforo rg-installing alumtnum

Use a tire changing machine to mount or demount
tires. Follow the equipment manufacturer\ insrructions. Do
not use hând tools or tire irons alone to chânge tire as they
may damâge the tire beads or wheel rim.
Rim bead sears should be cleaned with a wire brush or
coarse steel wool to remove lubricânts, old rubber, ând lisht
rusl. Before mounting or demounring a lire. rhe beâd a;ea
should be well lubricated with ân approved rire lubricant.
After mounting, inflâte to 40 psi so thar beads are

Install valve core ard inflâte to proper pressure. Check
the locating rings of the tire to be sure they show around
the rim flanges on both sides (Fig. 3E-16).

There are mâny dilïerenr mareriâls and techniques on
the mârket to repâir tires. As not all of rhese work on âtt
types of tires, tire mânufacturers hâv€ published deiailed
instructions on how ând when to repair tires. These
instructions can be obtained from the tire manufâcturer,
