17. Fill transmission with lubricânt as specified in
Section 0. InstâIl shift lever T-hândle, spring (4,speed) and
shift knob on floor shift models.
18. Check operation oftransmission ând âdjust linkage
âs required.
19. Lower and remove vehicle from hoist.
EXTENSION OIL SEAL REPLACEM ENT
1. Raise vehicle on hoist then remove propeller shaft
as outlined in S€ction 4A and disconnect any necessary
items to obtain cleâfânc€.
2. Pry seâl out of extension or use Tool J-5859 ând
J-2619 (Fig. 7B-16).
3. Wâsh counterbore with cleaning solvent and inspect
for darnage.
4. Prelubricâte between seaiing lips and coat new seal
O.D. with Permatex or equivâlent ând start strâight in bore
in case extension. Using Tool J-5154 or J-21426, tàp seal
inro counrefbore unril llange bolloms againsr exlension.
5. Reinstall propelier shaft and any items :emoved to

Rajse vehicle on hoist. Disconn€ct speedometer cable,
remove lock plate to €xtension bolt and lock washer and
remove lock plate. Insert sirew driver in lock plate slot in
fitting and pry fiuing geàr and shaft from extension. Pry
'O"
ring from groole in fi[ing.
Install new'o" ring ineroovein fitting. Coat'O'ring
and driven gear shaft with transmissior lubricânt and insert
shaft-
Hold theâssembly so slot in fitting is towârd lock plâte
boss on extension and instail in extension. Push fitting into
extension until lock plâte can be inserted in groove and
attach to extension and reinstâll sp€€dometer câble. Lower,
and remove vehicle f.om hoist.

Disassembly
L Remove the TCS switch from the side cover.

assemblies. Remove both shifier shaft assemblies from
cover. Pry our 2.3 shifrer shaft lip seal from side cover bore
ând remove "O" ring seâl from lstrev. shaft ifreplâcement
is required.
3. Remove detent cam spring and pivot retainer 'C"
ring- Remove both detent câms.
4. Replace dâmâged parts.

l. with detent spring tâng projecting up ove. the 2nd
ând 3rd shifter shaft cover opening install the first ând
rev€rse detent cam onto the detent cam pivot pin. Wilh the
detent spring tâng projecting up over the fi$t and reverse
