c. To force the retaitrer over the snâp
suitable washer over the shaft and squeeze
washer togeiher with pliers (Fig. 6D-l5E)
d. Remove the washer.

e. Assemble collar over shaft.
2. Refer to the disassembly procedur€ and follow in
r€verse to complete the reâssembly
3. When the solenoid is reinstalled, apptv sealing
compounal between field frame, flange' and sol€noid
Pinion Clearanc€
The pinion cleaiânce cannot be adjusted but should be
checked àfter r€âssembly of the motor to insure proper
clearance. Improper clearance is an indicâtion of worn
parts,
To check pinion clearance, follow the steps listed
1 Disconnect lhe motor teld coil connecior from
tlte solenoid notor
terminal and INSULATE IT
CAREFULLY.
2. Connect a battery from the solenoid switch termjnal
to the solenoid frame (Fig. 6D-178)
3. MOMENTARILY
flash a jumper lead from the
solenoial motor lerminal to the solenoid frame This will
shift the pinion into cranking position and it wili remain so
until the battery is disconnected
4. Push the pinion back towârds the commÙtâtor encl
to eliminate slack movement
5. Measure the distancebetween pinion and pinion stop
(Fis.6D-17E).
