NOTICE: If necessary, the câtalytic converter may
have to be disconnected to provid€ adequate clearance
for transmission removal. This procedùre will include
removâl of the converter support bracket,

L Remove shift lever knob, ând on 4-speed models rhe
unit down until shift lever cleârs rubber boot ând remove
assembly from v€hicl€.
8. R€move rransmiçsion ro clurch hoLsing upper
retaining bolts and install euide pins in holes and then
remove lower bolîs,
9. Slide transmission rearwârd until clutch drive gear
clears clutch assembly and remove from vehicle. See Fig.
78-15.
10. Raise transmission into position and dide forivard,
piloting clutch gear into clutch housing.
11. hstall transmission to clutch housing retâining
bolts ând lock washers. Torque bolts to specificâtions.
12. Slide shift lever inrc rubber boot and position shift
control to support. Install bolts retaining control to support
ând torque to specifications,
13. Install shilt l€v€rs to transmission. Torque bolts to
specificâtions. Connec! back drive rod to bell crânk.
14. Support and raise engine unril crossmemb€r mây
be repositioned. Install crossmenber to frame retaining
bolts and trânsmission mount to crossmember retaining
bolts. Torque to specifications.
15- Instâll prop shâft âssembly ard tighten nuts to
specifications. Refer to Section 44.
16. Connect speedometer câble ând "TCS" switch
wrrrng.

4. Disconnect and remov€ prop

5. Remove trânsmhsion mouni-to-crossmember
bolts
ând crossmember to frâme âttaching bolts. See Fig. 78-14.
Raise ând suppoft engin€ off crossmember. Remove
6. Remove shift lever âttâching bolts and levers from
transmission. Disconnect back drive rod ar bell craDk on
floor shift models.
7. On floor shift models, remove bolts attâching shift
control âssembly 10 suppoft on ransnission. Ca.efully puli
and "TCS" switch
shaft from vehicle.
