Slips in All Ranges or Slips on Start
(Instail pressu.e gage)
. Low Fluid Level - add fluid.

PRESSURE âbove.
. Forward clutch:
a. Clutch plates burned (see BURNED CLUTCH
PLATES below).
b. Pump cover oil seal rings broken or worn.
a Case - cross leaks or porosity.
Slipping 1.2 Shift
(Instâll presslre gage)
. Low Fiuid Level - add fluid.

Low Fluid Pr€ssure - refer to LOW LINÈ
PRESSURE above.
. 2-3 Accumulator - oil ring damaged or missing.
. l-2 Accumuiator - oil ring damaged, missing or case
bore dâmaged.
o Pump'to-Case Gasket - mispositioned or damaged.
. Intermediate Clutch:
a. Piston seals damaged or missing.
b. Clutch plat€s bùrned (See BURNED CLUTCH
PLATES below).
. Case - porosity b€tween channels.
Slipping 2.3 Shift
(Install pressure gâge)
. Low Fluid Level - add fluid.

. Dir€ct Clutchl
a. Pisron seals leak âre damaged or missing.
b- Clutch plates burned (see BURNED CLUTCH
PLATES below).
c. Inspect for proper number and typ€ ofclutch plates.
a Case - refer to case porosity repâir.
Rough 1-2 Shift

. 1-2 Accumulator:
a. Oil ings damaged.
b. Pistor stuck.
c. Broken or missing spring.
d. Bof€ damâged.
. Interûediate Clutch - check for burned and number
(type) of plâtes.
. Câse:
a. Check for correct number ând location of check
balls.
b. Porosity between channels.

a 2-3 Accumulator:
a. Oil ring damag€d.
b. Piston stuck.
c. Broken or missing spring.
d. Piston bore damaged.
No Engine Braking in L2

valve stuck,
. Intemediâte Servo and 2-3 Accumulator:
a. Servo or âccumulator oil dngs or bores leaking or
damaged.
b, Servo piston stuck or cocked.
. Intermediate Overrun Band - inteamediat€ overrun
band broken or buned (look for caus€), not engâged or
No Engino Braking in Ll
(Install pressure gage)
a Low Fluid Pressure - pressure regùlator andlor boost
. Manual Low Control Vâlve Assembly - stuck.
. Low and,Reverse Clutch - piston inner seal damâged
or mhsing.
No Pan Thlottle Downshift
(Install pressure gage)
a Fluid Pressure - vacuum modulator assembly,
modulâtor valve or pressure rcgulator valve train (other
mâlfùûctiolrs mây also be noticed).
. Detent Vâlve and Linkâge - sticks, disconnected or
brcken.
. 2-3 shift valve - stuck.
No Dolont (Wids opon Throttle) Downshift
. Detent downshift câble or retainer not adjusted
properly.
. Detent downshift câble disconnected at trânsmission
or throttle linkage.
. Vâlve Body:
â, Detent valve sticks,
b. Detent regulâtor vâlve sticks.
c. Incoffect spacer plâte or gâsket,
High or Low Shift Points
(Install pre,ssure gage)
. Fluid Pr€ssurel
a. Engine vacuum - check âl tnnsmission end of
modulator pipe.
b. Check vâcuum line connectiols at engine and
c. Vacuum modulator assembly and valve ând prcssure
regulalor valve train,
a. vâlv€ sticking.
b. Feed holes .€st.icted or leaking.
o Detent Valve and Linkage - stuck open (will câuse
high shift points).
o Contrcl valve Assembly:
a. 1-2 shift valve train sticking.
b. 2-3 shift vâlve train stickiûg.
a case - refer to câse porcsity repai.,
