Installatioo
1. Install rocker arms on shaft, lubricâting all parts as
they are âssembled with engine oil. One common rocker arm
is used in all locâtions on production engines, and therefore
can be installed in any sequence on the rocker ann shaft.
Should it become necessary to rcplâc€ one or more
rocker ârms, it must be noted thât âll service rocker arms
âre s.âmped (R) righr (L) left. see Fis. 647-10.
When installing se ice rocker arms care must be taken
to insùre rocker arms are installed on the rocker arm shaft
in the correct seqùence. Se€ Fig. 6A7-11.
2. Center eâch ârm on the l/4' (6.5mrn) hole in the
shaft. Instâll new nylon rock€r arm retâiners in the l,/4"
(6.5mrn) hol€s usins a drift of at least l/2" (13''ttt\) dia.
3. Install rocker ârm assembly.
lnstallation
L PIâce new intâke mânifold gasket and rubb€r
manifold seâls in position at lront and rear râils ofcylinder
block. Be sure poinied end ofseâl fits snugly against block
and head. Befor€ inslalling iniâke manifold seâls, apply
Silâstic Sealer or €quival€nt to ends ofseals. See Fig. 6A7'7.
2. Install one piece manjfold gâsket and cârefully s€t
inrake manifold on rhe engine block dowel pin.
3. Instâll mânifold to cylinder heâd bol.s.
NOTICE: New intake manifold gaskei and seals must
b€ used whenever â rnânifold is removed.
Wh€n installing mânifold, stârt with ihe # I ând
#2 bolts. Cradually iighten both bolts until snug.
Then continue with the rest ofthe bolts in the seqùence
shown in Figur€ 6A7-8. Torque bolts to specification.
4. Reveft€ removal procedur€ for installation.
5. Connect battery.
6. Close drâin plug and fill radiator to proper level.

Removal
L Support vehicle on stands.
2. Remove crossover pipe-
3- Disconneci EFE pipe.
4. Remove exhaust manifold bolts and exhaust.
Installation
1. Install manifold by reversing âbove pfocedures-
2. Torque €xhaust manifold bolts to specifications.

l. Remove rocker arm cover and remove rocker arm
ând shaft assembly to cylinde. head boits- Remove shaft
2. Place assembly on a clۉn surface.
3. Remov€ nylon rocker arm retâiners by prying them
out using a pair of chânnel locks. See Fig. 6À7-9.
4. Remove rocker arms and clean in suitâble solution.
Inspect for wear. Remove retainer pieces from inside shait.
