6.
Once the Lock Solenoid activates and
the Door Blocking bar moves to the right,
there is clearance for the other Blocking
bar (on the left) to drop down after the
Bimetal warms up (a few seconds). This
will not allow the door to be opened if
the washer starts and there is a Locking
Solenoid failure. At the end of a cycle the
Unlock Solenoid activates and pushes the
Blocking bar back up, which clears the
way for the Door Lock Solenoid to return
to its rest position using the force of the
spring surrounding its plunger. When the
Lock Solenoid returns to its rest position
the spring attached to the Door Blocking
bar pulls it to the left and allows the Door
Locked Switch to change state, as well as
let the Leaf Spring drop to its rest position
(once the door is opened). If all the above
takes place then the door can be opened.
7.
If the power fails and the door will not
open (because the bimetal fails) there is a
safety string that can be pulled to force the
Blocking bar up and allow the door to open
(See page 2-3).
TeCH Tip: When servicing door lock
solenoids, always make sure the copper
washer, on the plunger shaft, is replaced
or reinstalled properly. Reassembling the
solenoid assembly without this washer will
cause the solenoid to function erratically
or not at all. Frequently, during the
service procedure, this very small copper
washer gets lost or misplaced. Maytag
recommends that spare washers be kept on
the service truck. This copper washer does
not come when ordering a new solenoid.
