nOTe: Make sure not to misshapen the
grease ring when prying it out
14.
Remove as much grease as possible by
wiping with discardable rags to expose the
double row spherical bearings.
15.
Insert the thorn through the front bearing.
Center thorn, #518984, on inner race top
edge of rear bearing. Tap top of the thorn
with hammer to fully seat thorn into the
inner race of the rear bearing.
nOTe: Make sure the spherical bearing
stays in a horizontal position as the thorn
is fully seated into the inner race. The
spherical bearing will have the tendency to
shift its position when it is nudged in any
direction except straight down. If spherical
bearing does shift position, off of horizontal,
it will be necessary to grab hold of the inner
race and rotate it on its axis until it becomes
horizontal again.
16.
Striking the thorn will need to be done
in exact centered strokes, with a sledge
hammer, to avoid having the bearing shift
position while pushing it out of the bearing
housing.
nOTe: Sturdy support of the bearing
housing will be required when striking the
blows. Space must be secured below the
bearing housing for the bearing to fall into.
(See photo above for use of 4 x 4 blocks).
17.
Turn the bearing housing over and insert
the thorn, #518983, into the rear opening
of the bearing housing. Center the thorn

the inner race of the front bearing, (See note
at bottom of left column).
18.
