Fault Codes:
If, in the course of the operation of the washer,
the inverter or washer control board determine
there is a problem in the inverter drive or
motor circuit, the washer control board will
halt the operation of the washer and display
a fault code on its screen. Listed below is a
typical fault code display that would appear
in the display of the main control board if, for
example, contactor CM1 fails to supply power
to the inverter drive due to, let's say, an open
coil after Cycle (Program) 1 is started:
Let's cover this information line by line. The
top line indicates the obvious (the washer
is out of order and has aborted the cycle
in progress) and the not-so-obvious. (the
washer was running Program 1 (Pr1) and was
in step 1 (St1) when the problem occurred.
"ASK FOR SERVICE" is self-explanatory. The
final line indicates the diagnostic code and
error code number, along with an abbreviated
fault error description.
In this case it indicates a communication
error. The reason? If CM1 does not energize
there will be no power to the inverter, and with
no power to the inverter the inverter can not
communicate with the washer control board.
After approximately 5 seconds of trying to
communicate unsuccessfully with the inverter,
the washer control board will abort the cycle
and display the fault message.
Having this information, the technician can
check to see if the contactor engages and
sends power to the inverter when a cycle
is started, and if not, determine the reason,
repair the problem, and put the washer
through a thorough test to confirm that the
washer is functioning properly again.
"D" codes:
There are presently 19 "D" codes related to
the MFR models with Mitsubishi inverters
and many more error codes and "H" codes.
Most of the D codes are not directly related
to problems with the inverter drive circuit but
they are all helpful for quickly troubleshooting
problems with the washer. In general, D
codes D11, D12, D18 and D19 are directly
related to the inverter drive circuits.
"H" Codes:
In addition to the D codes there are H codes.
These codes may appear when setting up
the washer in the "Configuration" menu and
at other times. H codes 53 through 67 are
directly related to the inverter drive circuits.
Error Codes:
Error codes may be found with D codes or
H codes. They are usually denoted with the
"Err" part of the "Out of Order" messages
described in the example listed earlier in this
section. Most of the "Err" codes are related to
the inverter and are more thoroughly covered
in the programming manual for the washer.
These codes typically point the technician in
the right direction concerning the source of the
problem. One would be well advised to study
the manual thoroughly and keep a copy near
for a reference when servicing these models.
